Cape No. 7

Cape No. 7 is one of the new Taiwanese movies. It was not bad, the music was good but when I saw the cover in Taiwan I thought it’s a more serious film, instead it is a fresh summer movie with good music and a love story in the background.

In the 1940s near the end of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, a teacher (Kousuke Atari) dispatched to the southernmost town of Hengchun fell in love with a local girl with the Japanese name Kojima Tomoko (Rachel Liang). After the Surrender of Japan, he was forced to return to his home country. On his trip home, he penned seven love letters to express his regret for leaving Kojima Tomoko, who originally planned to elope with him to Japan.

More than 60 years after the teacher left Kojima Tomoko, Aga (Van Fan) is introduced as a struggling young Hengchun-native rock band singer who could not find success in Taipei. After returning to his hometown, Aga’s step father (Ju-Lung Ma), the Town Council Representative, arranged a position for him as a postman, replacing the senile Uncle Mao (Johnny C.J. Lin), on leave after a motorcycle accident broke his leg. One day Aga comes across an undeliverable piece of mail that was supposed to be returned to the post office: the daughter of the now deceased Japanese teacher has decided to mail the unsent love letters to Taiwan after discovering them. Aga unlawfully keeps and opens the package to discover its contents, but the old Japanese-style address Cape No. 7, Hengchun County, Takao Prefecture could no longer be found.

Meantime a local resort hotel inside Kenting National Park is organizing a beach concertKousuke Atari, but Aga’s step father makes use of his official position to insist that the opening band be composed of locals. Tomoko (Chie Tanaka), an over-the-hill Mandarin-speaking Japanese fashion model dispatched to Hengchun, is assigned the difficult task of managing this hastily assembled band, led by Aga along with six other locals of rather particular backgrounds. After a frustrating trial period Aga and Tomoko unexpectedly begin a relationship. With some assistance from hotel maid Mingchu (Shino Lin), Tomoko helps Aga find Kojima Tomoko, the rightful recipient of the seven love letters. Aga then returns to the beach resort and performs a highly successful concert with this local band and Kousuke Atari.

Well I can recommend this movie in any case. You can listen to good Taiwanese mucis, see the nice beaches and you’ll get a little summer feeling :)

    Hui...

oh we got 2 bottles of wine (red and white) and some chocolate from our sports&social club. I pay 4 euro per week for that club, so the we wait always for the presents(I suppose, I’m not sure).  Tonight there was also our annual JAM NIGHT. Some of the Apple guys play in a band or do some music, what ever…. and the club hold an annual jam night. We pay 5 euro for a charity and get 3x 5 euro vouchers for drinks. not a bad deal. However this year it seems I won’t go cause nobody of my colleagues go either and alone..hm i don’t know.. even the “csat competition” (this means customer satisfaction) a couple weeks ago was not that great. This year I even skipped the Christmas party but it seems I did not miss much, cause it was the same location, the same food (!!) but 15 instead of 10 euro + 3 drink vouchers.

I don’t know… since all my old colleagues left the company already it’s not the same… I’m working in the **** team now and we are totally cut off from my old ***** Team.. I don’t know. Well it was a very cool year anyway and I do not regret any minute, it was one of the best experiences I made so far.. but the complete review will follow in February… still 8 weeks to work :D

Ah today I learned from another colleague that one of the iPhone guys got a job in Apple Australia.. well thats a reason to be a bit jealous :D But let’s see, I hope this whole Apple thing is a good point in my cv :D

Something else: Does anyone knows the “Donovan”? Seems it’s a rock band from the 70s.. pretty cool actually.. my favorite song from their album “Open Road” is “Celtic Rock”….how come?

    Langeweile ^ Boring
